USDA Extends Deadline for Seafood Trade Relief Program

Final Rule Published for Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program
Wed Mar 4, 2020 11:48 AM America/New_YorkThe final rule for the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP), administered by USDA’s Farm Service Agency, was published in the Federal Register on March 2, 2020. As required by the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, this rule implements changes to NAP, making buy-up coverage levels available for 2019 and future years, increasing service fees, and extending the service fee waiver and premium reduction to eligible veterans. It also includes the changes to the payment limitation and native sod provisions and clarifies when NAP coverage is available for crops when certain crop insurance is available under the Federal Crop Insurance Act.
USDA Now Issuing Safety Net Program Payments to Producers of Pulse and Minor Oilseed Crops

If the applicable covered commodity met payment triggers and the farm and producer met eligibility requirements, then payments will be made for the following covered commodities - large and small chickpeas, sunflower seed, mustard seed, rapeseed, safflowers, crambe, sesame seed, and flaxseed.

The original deadline was October 25, 2019. This program is available to producers with base acreage that has been in grass or grasslands over a nine-year period, rather than planted with commodity crops.

As a result, producers with generic base acres will be allowed to convert to cotton base or allocate to other covered commodities later this summer and make a one-time election in the fall. The Act also authorizes farmers with generic base acres and a recent history of covered commodities a one-time opportunity to update the farm’s payment yield for seed cotton, which will also occur this summer.

USDA Receives Grant Applications from 33 States for Organic Certification Cost Share Program
Wed Apr 19, 2017 01:00 PM America/New_YorkApril 19, 2017 - U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Acting Administrator Chris Beyerhelm, today announced that under the December Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the Organic Certification Cost Share Program (OCCSP), USDA has received grant applications totaling approximately $7 million to 33 states under the initial deadline of Feb. 17, 2017. The states include: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. USDA is reviewing grant agreements requests and will begin providing agreements to states for signature.
